Toovar dal fry


  • How to make toovar dal fry:






  • Ingredients:
          1. Toovar/Tur dal or Pigeaon Peas (1 & half small bowl)
          2. Onion (1 no chopped)
          3. Garlic cloves (3-4 no chopped)
          4. Tomato (1 no)
          5. Green chillies (1-2 no)
          6. Red dry chilli (1-2 no break)
          7. Curry leaves/kadipatta
          8. Oil (1 tblspn)
          9. Turmeric powder (haldi)
         10. Mustard seeds (rai)
         11. Cumin seeds (jeera)
         12. Salt to taste
         13. Water (1-2 cups)



  • Preparation & Cooking:

         1. Clean the tur dal,place in the pressure cooker,cut the tomato & green chillies
              in two pieces add to the dal. Add turmeric powder & add water.
         2. Cook the dal till 2-3 whistles on low-medium flame.
         3. After sometime open up the cooker and cool the dal to room temperature.
         4. Churn the dal to have a even consistent dal, add water while churning if required.
              (some like watery dal,some like thick so depending on your likings)
         5. Heat oil in a kadhai,add the chopped garlic,mustard & cumin seeds,saute for 1 min.
         6. Clean and add the curry leaves with red dry chilli, add the chopped onion & saute
             for 2 mins.
         7. Add the churned cooked dal to the kadhai/wok and mix well.
         8. Add salt to taste and mix with all the ingredients.
         9. Give it a boil & remove from heat/flame.
        10. Serve with rice.
