Bottle Gourd/Lauki Thalipeeth

  • How to make lauki thalipeeth:

From kids to adults, many do not like the lauki sabji/bottle gourd. Just like
cucumber/kakadi thalipeeth, I thought of making the lauki thalipeeth. It is
really tasty & healthy breakfast dish. So here's the recipe.

  • Ingredients:
         1. Lauki/Bottle Gourd (half grated)
         2. Chana dal/Bengal Gram flour
         3. Rice flour
         4. Rawa/Semolina (optional)
         5. Curry leaves (6-7 no chopped)
         6. Green chillies (3-4 chopped)
         7. Turmeric powder
         8. Cumin seeds (jeera)
         9. Salt to taste
        10. Onion (1 no chopped)
        11. Oil

  • Preparation & Cooking:
          1. Grate about half the bottle gourd/lauki in a broad vessel.
          2. Add chana dal & rice flour in equal proportion in order to make batter
              to spread.
          3. Use a coarse rice flour or if you do not have coarse rice flour add the rawa.
          4. Add the chopped onion,curry leaves,green chillies,cumin seeds,turmeric powder
              & salt to taste.
          5. Mix all the ingredients well.
          6. Place the non stick pan on the heat & add a tspn of oil & spread all over.
          7. When the oil is heated, place abt 3-4 tblspn of batter & spread it from centre
to all the sides. Spread it evenly to make thin & crispy thalipeeth.
          8. Cook from one side, add some oil on the sides of the thalipeeth, turn it over
               & cook from both sides.
          9. Cook till it is golden brownish in color.
         10. Serve hot with chana dal chutney or tomato sauce.
         11. You do not require water, while grating the water content in the lauki eases
                in preparing the batter.

  • Servings: Six to Seven.
