Rawa Upma

  • How to make rawa upma:

  • Ingredients:
          1. Rawa (coarse/not too fine)
          2. Oil (1 tblspn)
          3. Mustard seeds (rai)
          4. Cumin seeds (jeera)
          5. Onion (1 no chopped)
          6. Green chillies (3 no chopped)
          7. Dry red chilli (1 no )
          8. Turmeric powder (haldi)
          9. Urad dal (half tspn)
         10. Groundnut (less than a handful)
         11. Salt to taste
         12. Curry leaves
         13. Coriander leaves to garnish

  • Preparation & Cooking:
          1. First roast about 2 small bowl of rawa in the kadhai without adding oil.
              Saute till it is little brownish in color on low flame.
          2. Once the rawa is roasted remove it from heat.
          3. Heat oil in the kadhai/wok, add the mustard & cumin seeds. Also add
              curry leaves.
          4. After these ingredients crackle add the urad dal,groundnut,red chilli and 
              saute for 2 mins.
          5. Now add the chopped onion & green chillies saute for 1 min.Add the turmeric
             powder and salt, mix well.
          6. Add 1-2 cups of water and give it a boil.
          7. After the water boils, keep low flame and add the roasted rawa and by the
             spatula/cooking spoon mix simultaneously.
          8. Cover the lid and cook on low flame for 5 mins.
          9. Once the water is absorbed by rawa mix and stir it once.
         10. Now the rawa is ready to eat.
         11. Garnish with coriander leaves, add lemon juice and enjoy the upma.
