Ragi/Nachni Upma

  • Ragi/Nachani Upma:

  • Ingredients:
          1. Ragi/Nachani (1& 1/2 small bowl)
          2. Oil (1 tblspn)
          3. Mustard seeds (rai)
          4. Cumin seeds (jeera)
          5. Onion (1 no chopped)
          6. Green chillies (3 no copped)
          7. Red chillies (2 no)
          8. Groundnut
          9. Turmeric powder (haldi)
         10. Salt to taste

  • Preparation & Cooking:
          1. Take 1&half small bowl of ragi/nachani grains.Grind them between coarse
              and fine.Try not to grind it too fine or too coarse.
          2. Roast the grounded ragi/nachai for about 3-5 mins on a pan.

          3. Heat oil in kadhai/broad wok, add mustard,cumin seeds and also add the
              red chillies.
          4. Now add about a handful of groundnut, saute all together for 2 mins.
          5. Once the red chillies color turns darker, add the onion and green chillies.
          6. Add turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
          7. Add the roasted ground ragi/nachani and saute for 3 mins.
          8. Add about a cup of water and mix well.
          9. Add more water as required for completely cooking the ragi in case of some
              coarser grains
         10. Cover the lid and cook for about 20-25 mins on medium flame.
         11. Serve hot with lemon juice or lemon pickle.
